Remus stood in the street, having just entered Diagon Alley. His first thought was to go to the book store, but he had a feeling that Sirius was going to be there soon. Why he had that feeling, he wasn’t sure, but he had it. He tended to trust instincts about Sirius. He sniffed the air, and then smiled. He definitely smelled Sirius in the air. That was probably the reason he’d had the feeling. He scanned he crowded streets, looking for his crush.

Sirius wandered along the crouded London street, trying to hide the fact that he hadn't slept for quite a while. He was also trying to hide the rather large bruise on the side of his neck by popping his collar and brushing his long hair over it. He really couldn't stand his mother, especially when she got his father to beat him. He could fight off his mother but not his father. After a particularly nasty fight, in which Sirius had gained yet another bruise to his already battered body, he had been kicked out, left to wander the streets for the night. He had gotton the Knight Bus to London with what little money he had in his pocket, then holed up in one of the London Underground stations. Now he was on his way to Gringotts to get out some of the money he had in his secret bank account.
He turned the corner and walked down an alleyway beside the Leaky Cauldron, then tapped the bricks in the usual pattern and step through the archway. He stopped, however, when he nearly walked into Remus, who was standing near the entrance to Diagon Alley. "Hey, Remus!" he said, cheering up instantly. He tried to hide the tiredness in his voice, but he was pretty sure Remus would figure out that he wasn't in the best shape. After all, you rarely get away with sleeping on a bench without anyone noticing.

Remus looked at Sirius, and ducked his head to hide the blush that had sprung to his cheeks. He always blushed for a few seconds when he saw Sirius, because of the thoughts he occasionally had about the other boy. After two or three seconds he looked up again. He took in Sirius’ appearance, and sighed.
“Another fight with your parents?” he asked quietly, not only to prevent others from hearing him, but also because he never spoke ion a normal tone.

Sirius nodded, making sure to keep his usual grin in place. If he pretended it didn't bother him, and that the bruises didn't hurt every time he moved, and that he was becoming quite acustom to sleeping in train stations, maybe he would believe it as well. "Yeah, but it's alright: Just a week until Hogwarts, and then I won't have to deal with any of them," he said, still grinning.
"What are you doing here anyway Moony? Would have thought you'd be packing: You like being organized, I seem to remember," he continued with a barklike laugh. "Not that I'm not happy to see you, mate: You know it's always a laugh when we spend time together." He continued to grin, his heart jumping a little as he watched his friend's face. I shouldn't feel like this... he thought to himself, trying to banish the thoughts of how nice it would be to kiss Remus from his mind.

Remus felt he couldn’t disagree with Sirius, though it was obvious that he was lying. He blushed again at the comment about his over-organization. This one he didn’t hide. He had a reason to blush, and Sirius would expect it.
“I need to pick up books. The only reason I’m not already at Flourish & Blotts is that I…” he paused, unsure how to word it in such a way that he wouldn’t feel embarrassed, “I knew you were on your way, and it’d be nice to have someone to talk to while I’m shopping.”
His voice remained in it’s quiet tenor, and he kept his eyes on Sirius, though he couldn’t look him directly in the eye. His blush still hadn’t faded.

Sirius let out a small laugh. "Knew it was a good idea to be friends with you, Moony. You always seem to be at the right place at the right time! Let's go then! Off on a mission to find the books we will undoubtably burn at the end of term! After that can we go to the bank? I need to pick up some money so I can stay in the Leaky Cauldron until the end of the week," he explained, already bounding down the street.
He stopped suddenly, waiting for Remus to catch up with him, a lopsided grin on his face. Remus always cheered him up, with his quiet understanding and soft voice so different to the loud, joking nature of James. While James was his best friend, he knew he would rather be with Remus after having a fight with his parents. "Hurry up, Remus!" he shouted, still grinning.

Remus caught up with Sirius after a few moments. His hair had blown into his eyes, and he’d needed to stop for a moment to get it out. He had worn his hair loose because his mother was “certain” that there would be no wind that day. He smiled slightly at Sirius when he had caught up.
“Sorry,” he said, when Sirius would be able to hear him.

Sirius shook his head in a joking way, then narrowed his eyes at Remus, his grin broadening. "You're hair isn't all tied back!" he exclaimed, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. He loved Remus' hair: It was very soft, and very floaty when it wasn't tied up. "Looks cool," he said, trying to sound less excited and more observant and calm. He fiddled with the collar of his coat again as a woman walked by and stared at him; she must have seen the damn bruise, and he hated it when people tried to pity him.

Remus blushed again at Sirius’ exclamation. He loved it when Sirius noticed something about him. It made him feel special. He went out of his way to make himself attractive for Sirius, so it was nice to have a reaction from Sirius. As they walked to Flourish & Blotts, Remus found himself wanting to take hold of Sirius’ hand.
“Mum said it wouldn’t be windy today, so I though it would be safe,” Remus said, trying to distract himself from the sudden need to touch Sirius.

"Psh, I like it when it's windy. You're hair goes all...froo. And it's cool," he said, feeling his stomach twist as Remus blushed at the compliment he gave him. It was odd, really, that whenever he gave Remus a compliment it seemed like he was complimenting someone who was more than just his friend, although he knew he should get that thought out of his mind because, while he had nothing against gay people, he was pretty sure he was straight and Remus was straight. But sometimes he hoped that he was wrong about his assumption.
A strand of Remus' hair suddenly fluttered infront of him and brushed against his face. Laughing, Sirius took the strand and placed it carefully back behind Remus' ear. "Maybe you should get some hair pins?"

As Sirius’ hand went to his ear, then start going back down, Remus caught hold of it. He didn’t really consciously realize he was doing it until he felt the warmth of Sirius’ hand against his own. His blush darkened, and he tried to decide what to do, as their hands fell between them, so that they were holding hands like a couple. If he pulled his hand away, it would be obvious he’d acted without thinking, and that was not an image he wanted. On the other hand, Sirius might be able to guess that he was interested if he left it there, which was dangerous in its own way. By this time, though, a few seconds had passed, and it was too late to pull away.

Sirius wasn't exactly sure what to do when Remus took hold of his hand, but it felt nice to have him holding his hand, especially after what had happened with his family. It felt like he had someone to comfort him. He tightend his grip on Remus' hand, making sure that he wouldn't pull away, and blushed a little. He wasn't used to not knowing what to do with a person he liked.
"Erm...Remus? I...er...yeah, d'you want to go get a coffee?" he stuttered, before realizing how utterly stupid he sounded. "I mean, um, er..." he trailed off, looking at Remus in a slightly zoned out way. He had entierly forgotton that they were planning on going to the bookshop.

Remus took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. Sirius squeezing his hand did not help. When he finally was sure he could talk without tripping over his words, he said, “I still need to pick up my books, and you need to stop by Gringotts.” He then realized he had corrected Sirius. He never did that. Ever. It was rather embarrassing. If he hadn’t already been blushing brilliantly, he would have blushed. As it was, he ducked his head slightly, and looked away.

"Oh...right," Sirius responded. His brain seemed to be missing, and all that mattered was that he was holding Remus' hand and that, for come reason, it made him feel like everything was alright and that nothing mattered. But he needed to get his brain back.
"D'you want to get coffee after we get the books and money then?" he asked cheekily, his usual charm returning. He wasn't exactly sure what he was doing, but he was at least trying to do something. And if it ended up with him on a date with Remus, well, then it was all good.

Remus smiled at Sirius, feeling shy and wishing he could be adorably shy in a feminine way, rather than awkwardly shy in his own male way. When Sirius continued with the coffee idea, the first thing that came to his mind also spilled out of his mouth. “Is it a date?”
He really needed to learn to control his impulses. This never happened around anyone else!
